TST Exclusive: Inside STILLEN
Today was a good day. Today I got to meet one of my racing idols, Steve Millen, and get a behind the scenes tour of Steve Millen Sportparts, aka STILLEN, his extremely successful aftermarket business. If you don’t know who Steve Millen is, stop reading this now and click on his BIO. If you aren’t completely blown away by a racing history like that, well then you aren’t a car guy anymore. Steve has raced nearly every type of vehicle conceivable; if it has four wheels and an engine, chances are, Steve has driven it fast enough to scare the crap out of anyone brave enough to ride along. He’s arguably the winningest sports car driver of all time, and has been tuning street cars for nearly 25 years.
You’re going to have to wait a couple of weeks for the episode to come out to see a full, comprehensive look at STILLEN in the way that only The Smoking TIre can show, but for now, here’s a few behind the scenes photos from today’s shoot. Some of the gallery highlights include the #75 IMSA GTS Car in which Steve was driving a great majority of his 20 IMSA GT victories, and its stablemate the 1994 STILLEN SMZ 300zx, a very limited production tuning package for the Z that you could order from the dealer. This particular example has less than 2,000 miles on it. Clearly the focus of our episode is the STILLEN GT-R, which Steve piloted in the 2009 Targa Newfoundland Rally, and as you can probably imagine, it’s extraordinarily fast.
