Sweden’s* First All-Wheel-Drive ‘32 Ford Deuce!

The ‘32 Ford Deuce is one of the most hot-rodded cars of all time, period. In fact, if you close your eyes and I were to say the words “Hot Rod,” the ‘32 Ford Deuce is probably the first car that would come to mind. In the last 75 or so years, they have been turned into dragsters, cruisers, show cars, low riders, and everything in between. And I’ll be honest here: a very high percentage of them are seriously awful.  But a track car? A car meant to go around corners? Surely, that’s not what ol’ Henry had in mind.

Tomas Svenningson didn’t exactly have an easy time building his dream machine. After all, despite the volumes of parts catalogs available for the Deuce, not a single one will explain how to turn one into a track car, drop in a turbocharged Volvo engine, or build an all-wheel drive system that fits. This would explain why it took Tomas 5 years to complete his project, even without building a real interior.

We don’t have horsepower numbers, but Hot Rod is quoting the 0-60 numbers at 3.76 seconds and 1/4 mile time of 11.85 @ 121 mph. That’s impressively quick for a car with only 5 cylinders that’s not set up for drag racing, but the more impressive number is the lap time. At Sweden’s Anderstorp Raceway, Svenningson can run a 1:48, which is ten seconds shy of a Porsche 911 GT3 Cup. Ten seconds is a lot on a racetrack, but considering what the Deuce was originally built for, its a very impressive number.

I love originality in car building. Anyone can take a ‘57 Bel Air, drop in a crate engine and a set of Torq Thrust Wheels, paint it candy red and call it a resto-mod, but in my opinion, Tomas Svenningson’s ‘32 is what custom car building is really all about. Well done, sir.

*Edit* It has come to my attention that this is not actually a “world’s first,” hence the title change.

Rad Rides by Troy made one for summit racing several years ago. It was on an episode of Rides on TLC.

this car is a total opposite of what it was intended to be back in '32. and i love it for that! what i wanna know is whats the top speed? and how does it take a corner (in g-forces)?

This isn't the first all wheel drive Deuce. Rad Rides by Troy made on called the QuadraDeuce a few years ago. It was on Rides on TLC and I believe it was made for Summit Racing.
