The Smoking Tire takes to the Malibu Canyons in the 2011 Ford Mustang V6 to find out why this car may be the most significant car built in America this year. Host Matt Farah puts the Mustang through its paces, starting with an epic burnout!
Upgrade your Stang to run with the big boys with V6 Mustang parts from AmericanMuscle.

Nice review Matt, since the camero is back ford had to up the ante for the V6. Still the pervious mustang V6 models have their fans too. You'd be suprised to see how devoted some can be.
I'm sure there are some die-hard V6 guys out there, and that's fine, but the new V6 really does make all of the older V6 models completely obsolete….
Nice! Slightly baised (in my opinion) but you do subject reviews so I like it
BTW, did you do a burnout before the review? I mean… you probably had the whole day of driving with the thing
so like 400 miles of hard driving
oh well,, just saying so how many miles did you spend with this thing?
and did it had some miles when you got it?
a few hundred miles on it when i got it, a few miles of smoke, and a few hundred miles of hard driving.
The model you tested must have had the Performance Package, correct? I wonder about the base model with the 2.73
I tested a performance pack car, yes. I would highly recommend that over a base car, with that much power on tap, the upgraded differential and brakes go a long way.
the performance package has 19 inch wheels, with pirelli summer tires. the rims you have on the car are 17 inch bfgoodrich traction spec that are h rated. much better handling with the actual perfromance pack.
Hey Matt if you had the money and they were both brand new which would you buy? The 2011 V6 Mustang or a 2009 V6 Shelby Terlingua Mustang. I only ask cause you're the only one I know who has driven both and I'm not sure which would be the better of the two.
I'd rather a Terlingua over a new V6 mustang, all day long.
Great review. What are your thoughts on the 2011 Mustang V6 vs the 2011 GTi?
I live in New England and am looking for a daily driver and did not even consider the Mustang until I just started researching them. I figured I would be slapping snow tires on either car, so handling in the snow should not be too much different.
I know from a MPG point of view the VW beats the Stang hands down, but from a bang for the buck and fun-ness POV which would you choose? I like the exterior styling of the Stang but the interior of the VW always beats the competition.
I also see that your test vehicle had the glass roof which I think is a really hott option. Thoughts on that?
Thanks again for keeping me entertained and informed.
If you're really in the market, you should go drive both. They both have the same kinds of features, but the Mustang is faster. The Mustang looks better, but the VW still feels a bit more expensive. I would probably go with the GTI over the V6 Mustang, but I am big into "feel" and I usually go with the car that feels more expensive for my money, which is why I bought a JCW Mini Cooper instead of an STI or Evo a few years back.
Test drove the GTi and Golf TDi already, the Mustang V6 will be on my ToDo list for this weekend.
Thanks Matt.
