If you were going to chose a donor car to build into a Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, what would you chose? Obviously, you’d want something mid-engined, probably a convertible at the very least. I’d say a Porsche Boxster, since 1st generation models can be had cheap, and at least it has a leather interior and some semblance of performance. Not everyone thinks like me, including this guy. Well, would you believe that underneath this – “e” for effort – bodywork lies a 128,000 mile Dodge Stratus? I didn’t believe it either, but it’s true.
In the seller’s own words:
Okay, this was a 4 door 1996 dodge stratus. The body was hand made by an aeronatic engineer (in metal). The car could use some block and sanding and repainting. As you see in the picture the car does look good. This is a full size dodge stratus that was turned into a coupe. Plenty of leg room, door popers, runs and drives, everything works, security alarm system and even has a one piece fiberglass top that is covered in black cloth with a glass window. Car has 19 inch custom rims. Interior has standard stratus interior and if I keep this car, I will customize the interior. This car runs and drives. The builder put a different type of headlights on the car, but they work fine. This will be the only time I will advertise this car for sell. This car has never been advertised before. The engine is in the front and is a standard dodge stratus 6 cylinder engine. I will provide more pictures of the car and of the top. The top is totally removable and very custom. Looks like the real thing. Good luck on bidding on this one.
Good luck indeed. But bonus points for the (apparently authentic) Aston Martin Lagonda in the background. One day, I’m gonna get one of those things, drop a big-block in it, and go drag racing.

Thanks, Innox for the tip!

I can't find it on eBay. How much did it go for?
still up. Click on the [Source: Ebay] link at the bottom of the article.
C'mon, really? 30, maybe 40K in total to 'build' this? You can find a Maserati GrandSport or DB7 for 40K in fantastic condition. Oh yeah, and they're real..
Good point, I've always wondered why people put so much time, effort, and, most importantly, money, into these super crappy kit cars. Just save up and go for the real thing! I can't imagine driving around in a fake Ferrari or Lambo, even if it looked identical and had a similar engine. Think about the excitement of driving around in the real thing…
It is awful ugly!!
"..Looks like the real thing.."
Are you sure its not a Z under that.
"looks like the real thing"
What is that guy smoking?.. I'll take some of that shit.
My guess is that these kind of projects start out with a 7K or 10K budget and then it goes up and up. Once your deep in it, you don't want to stop part way and have no car to show for it, so you keep putting more money into it until it's done. Next thing you know, you have this! LOL
