Video: The 180 MPH 1969 Dodge Daytona – “Project Angrier”

After testing the Art Morrison 1955 Chevy Bel Air, we’ve taken a liking to older muscle cars that actually perform like new. That’s why we went to the Hamptons, NY to visit our friend Mr. Angry and take his incredible 1969 Dodge Daytona for a little “spin.” After doing road rallies for years in muscle cars, Mr. Angry wanted the ultimate long-distance, high-speed Pro Touring machine, and he may just have built what it takes to earn the crown of “Hemmings Muscle Car of the Year.” Hit the jump for the epic video.

Love the cop at 6:20. What a fantastic car. I only loved the super birds because of their capabilities, they aren't "lookers". But with the matte black and the modern amenities, what a fantastic car. That is the definition of baddass on 4 wheels.

    Hey Matt,
That car looks amazing black on black. Oh to be rich, the things I would buy.

Question, is the suspension fairly stock or is it a frame off IRS with double wishbones up front? I can't imagine that it's gonna be on an autocross champ but how does it do in the turns?

it's a unibody car, so there's no such thing as "frame-off." The suspension has been upgraded, although to be honest I don't know the full extent of the modifications. I do know that it's running torsion bars in the rear. It's not an autocross champ for sure, but Mike showed me a video where he held off a new Challenger SRT8 for 5 or 6 laps at Grattan, so it's totally decent on a road course.

Great review like usual. I was kind of surprised at the width of those tires… maybe its the proportions of the car, but they look pretty thin. Also that ending is priceless!

I don't like the daytona.. I like the boxy charger. :)

In any case it's cool, love the black on black, but I hate how small the wheels look.

In my opinion, old school chargers look better with giant Drag slicks.. hahaha..

The Kardashian joke and playing with the cop were priceless.

I agree on the looks. It is definatly not the nicest looking muscle car out there but who cares when you can drive something that performs like that. Everything looks like a flash going by 180 mph anyway.

That exhaust note is intoxicating! Nothing brightens my day better than a hard mashed right pedal! Even better if its within earshot of some smug a-hole who believes MPG is better than FUN!
