Video: 450 HP BMW 135i vs 440 HP BMW 1M Coupe Half Mile Drag Race

Yesterday, we showed you what happens when two similar power cars, with similar weights, go head to head on a runway and one car’s got street tires, while the other car has drag radials. Tires make a big difference in drag racing. Today, here’s a little different. Who do you think wins a half mile drag race between a BMW 135i coupe, with basic bolt on parts and software to make a claimed 450 hp, versus a 1M coupe with just an intake, downpipe, and ECU flash, making a claimed 440 hp.       The blue 135i jumped ahead right at the beginning, and the 1M never got it back.

    I never could tell if the 1M was a disappointment or not. Perhaps it's just that the 135i is just that good, and for the 1M to be great, it was going to need a ton of input from the M division, and that could push it too close to the M3.

    rolling drag races on a mark are a strech. it's fine if you are going on a independant sound sign ( horn 3 times from 3rd caror a guy over the radio ) then you only match the speed and wait for the sign, here you have to match speed and constantly watch the mark and ajust the car if you are trailing by a bit or in front by a bit. and they are coming from a turn so they cant be at the same speed to be next to eatch other….it's just to many factors. just line them up and burn come clutches, with those cars they got money for new ones anyway.
