At one time or another we’ve all probably driven too fast for the conditions. Sometimes it’s because we have a capable car, like a heavy Audi on snow tires, giving you good reason to pass that crawling pickup truck on 22s. But sometimes it’s because we’re idiots, and believe we’re invincible. I believe the driver of this BMW M3 was thinking the latter, when he passes a car at high speed on a very, very wet highway. And of course, right on cue, he loses control in front of the camera, crossing the left lane, hitting the center divider and rolling over.

Thankfully we heard no one was seriously hurt in this accident. But if you, like me, haven’t been in a serious accident, it’s easy to get comfortable driving too fast. So as I watched this M3 careen towards the K rail, I assumed it would hit and just bounce off (something I saw in person on a snowy highway, but at a lower speed). I was wrong. So next time I’m driving too fast for the rain, hopefully I’ll remind myself the car could easily flip, rather than gently sliding into a bed of daffodils, as I previously assumed.
