Video: Matt Tests the STILLEN Supercharged Nissan 370Z on TUNED

On our new show Tuned on the /DRIVE Network, we test completely re-worked vehicles, because on that show, stock just won’t do. And there are two kinds of tuner cars we love: crazy, over the top ones designed by madmen, and balanced packages that highlight a vehicle’s good characteristics while simultaneously improving upon the factory’s shortcomings. In this episode of Tuned, we focus on the latter. Steve Millen is a veteran racer-turned-tuner, and the team at STILLEN (AKA Steve Millen Sportparts) worked their magic on the already fun Nissan 370Z. They added 170 extra horsepower, courtesy of a Vortech centrifugal supercharger, improved the suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, and cooling system to produce an incredibly well balanced sports car that performs admirably in traffic, in the canyons, or at the track. We have been waiting a long time to drive this car, ever since seeing it being developed at STILLEN’s factory, and now we know why it was worth the wait. Hit the jump for the video.

Another decent episode, but starting to get a lil tired of this format with the brief intro, short joke or two and then the rest being like an advertisement for the tuner. Dont get me wrong, i'm a big fan, just want to see the show grow and i know there has been variety in it. I'm guessing u probably didnt travel all the way out there to do one show so it would be nice to see coverage of tuner events as well, especially overseas. Have some local guys with a passion show u around (less scripted). Always good to get into the heads of these people, like u did in the blastolene ep. Oh, and having tuner car battles (comparisons of sort) in the future would be cool. For example, could u imagine the viewer count if u did an in depth battle between an ams gtr and a switzer gtr. I know u have a plan as u always have given us great stuff. Just wanted to give a couple ideas. To the entire team: Keep up the good work!

Here's the thing: its not as much an advertisement for the tuner as we pre-screen all the cars we feature and only film the ones we already like. With The Smoking Tire, cars come our way and we have no idea whether or not we like them, but we already know we like the cars we feature on Tuned. As for Tuner events, we're doing a runway tuner shootout in about 2 weeks so we've got that covered.

Hey Matt, I was wondering your thoughts on the 370z overall. I like this and the Cayman S so I was wondering if you thought spending the extra money on the Cayman S is worth it, or do I save the money and get the oil cooler with the Z? Thanks for the help if you have a chance to answer. I have been following your posts since Garage 419, and I am a huge fan of your work. Keep it up man!

    • TheSmokingTire

The Cayman S, provided it has a warranty (original or extended) is a much better buy. The Z is fun, but the Cayman is quite a bit better.

Fanstastic! Thank you for the advice, Matt. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond to my post.

Least you’re drive this red car fast unlike today on the pch in that Porsche

    • TheSmokingTire

The PCH is a horrible place to speed. Cops, pedestrians, traffic, lights, idiots jamming on the brakes last minute to park on the beach, it's a nightmare. I drive fast on Piuma, Latigo, Decker, and the other empty canyons where there is no one around.

The tuned 500-hp Nissa 350Z sports car looks very appealing with its swift acceleration capability, responsive handling, and inspiring styling traits.
