Watch: Gallardo Hits GT500
by Zack Klapman
What could be better than wheel-to-wheel racing, with a variety of exotics and tuned cars that would perfectly round out any garage? There’s an Evo, a Lambo, an R8, a Ford GT, a GT500, and more. But, we don’t want it to be too safe and boring, right? These cars would lap Laguna with undramatic ease. Lots of room to pass, run-off areas, big wide turns… Nah, how about we put them on a 2 lane road, kind of like a Targa stage? No, they’ll still all run at the same time. No, of course we can’t do it in the U.S., no way that would be legal here. How aboutttttt Colombia?! Yes! Let’s do it there. Lax rules, gorgeous women, cocaine. The drivers will be happy, happy, and alert.
And that’s my fact-less idea of how this race came to be. The race itself does seem quite fun. Lots of different cars on what seems to be an improvised road course, all racing past cheering fans. It’s like any track day here but the course is more tarmac stage rally than race track. Looks like fun. Unless some guy in a Gallardo over-corrects his drift and smacks the side of your GT500. That kind of ruins the day. Although the GT500 seems to be ok, whereas the Gallardo sheds body panels like dandruff and comes to a crumpled halt. Cue the Ford fans screaming “Built Ford tough!” with an unjustified sense of cleverness and originality.
Jump to watch.
Closer angle, where the camera man isn’t an idiot and points the camera at his feet.
