Watch Leo Explain What’s New in WRC
By Zack Klapman
Every day there’s enough auto news churned out to drown a large building in 1s and 0s. If you gave Dustin Hoffman’s Rain Man character Adderall he wouldn’t be able to read it all. And that’s just industry new. There’s also press releases for each racing series, and the teams, and the rules, and new seat belt designs, and SEMA rims. I get emails from people telling me about an upcoming decision to decide which builder will be chosen to build something for an event, which has yet to be announced. A day’s worth of information hurtles at us via email like a volley of arrows darkening the sky from Braveheart.
So what you, the enthusiast, get to do, is find a funnel for said information. Places like Autoblog, Hooniverse, or DRIVE. They have people that can catch the PR shotgun blasts, analyze them, and condense them into necessary information. Leo Parente is my racing news translator. In a few minutes he presents the interesting bits of racing news, and breaks down any whys and hows. This week he’s talking about 9-time WRC champion Sebastien Loeb leaving WRC (and why he beat the shit out of everyone at X Games), the new manufacturers that are sending cars sideways through the woods, and what companies he’d like to see enter the fray. Make the jump and get a quick analysis of what’s going on in WRC (with a small detour to the Korean F1, and GP racing).
