A Smoky Big Muscle Finale: Musto’s ’68 Charger and ’69 Daytona Replica [video]
By Zack Klapman
For the entire first year of BIG MUSCLE, fans have been asking host Mike Musto to showcase his own two cars: a 1968 Dodge Charger and a 1969 Dodge Daytona replica, that he built from a ’69 Charger. Mike loves his cars, and wanted to give the fans what they wanted, but he didn’t know how. How do you review your own cars? It might seem simple at first, “Easy! You know them in and out!” Yes, but how do you do it without coming across like a douche? This was very much Mike’s concern, and a valid one. Be too complimentary, the commenters hose you for being biased. Be too critical, and people ask why you bought shitty cars. What to do? The answer? Have other people review them.
So he tapped Larry Kosilla of DRIVE CLEAN and JF Musial of DRIVEN to do the reviews for him. JF nervously jumps in the Suburban-length Daytona, and Larry gets in the Charger, and help us understand what makes these cars, and Mike, tick. In fact, JF tells us the story of exactly how and why Mike got into muscle cars; it didn’t start at age 5, I’ll tell you that. And since Mike actually drives the shit out of his cars, there’s lots of smokey burnouts and parking lot drifting to boot.
As you may or may not know, Big Muscle is filmed, produced, and edited by TST’s own Thaddeus Brown, Zack Klapman, and Nino Cutraro, respectively. We’re grateful for the all fans and comments, good or bad. We want to make the best show possible, and plan to make next year’s Big Muscle even better. Thanks for watching, and supporting us this year. Now make the jump to watch.
