A MINI Countryman JCW, driven by French rally driver Guerlain Chicherit, banged out the world’s first successful backflip in a car. In a car. Someone did a back, flip, in, a, car. This is insane.

 

Crazy, cool, whatever you think, it’s definitely not pointless. The technology and science gathered during said flip will absolutely trickle down to future commuter cars.*

    So why did the back end rotate that much and fast

      Probably a combination of high rebound rate up front and the rear wheels driving it up the wall. If you watch the video of a truck trying to backflip on New Year's 2012, they had a ramp with a spring, which kicked the front up. In the Mini's case, it looks like they made the ramp super steep and probably put bouncy springs up front.
